Calculate Molarity

Quick Answer

Molarity = moles / liters. To make 1M NaCl (1L): dissolve 58.44g (1 mole) in water to make 1 liter total. Dilution formula: M1V1 = M2V2.

Key Facts about Molarity Calculator:

  • M = moles / liters
  • Grams = M × V × MW
  • Dilution: M1V1 = M2V2
  • 1 mole = 6.022 × 10²³ particles
  • MW of water: 18 g/mol

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our molarity calculator

What is molarity?

Moles of solute per liter of solution (mol/L)

Molarity (M) is moles of solute per liter of solution. A 1M solution has 1 mole of solute in 1 liter. Formula: M = moles / liters or M = grams / (MW × liters).

How do I calculate dilution?

M1V1 = M2V2 (concentration × volume before = after)

Use M1V1 = M2V2. If you need 500mL of 0.5M from 2M stock: 2 × V1 = 0.5 × 500, so V1 = 125mL stock + 375mL water.

How many grams to make 1M solution?

Grams = M × V(L) × Molecular Weight

Grams = Molarity × Volume (L) × Molecular Weight. For 1L of 1M NaCl (MW = 58.44): 1 × 1 × 58.44 = 58.44 grams.
