Due to baccarat's drawing rules, the banker hand wins more often than the player hand:
Without the 5% commission, banker bets would have a 1.24% player edge. The commission shifts the edge to the house.
The banker hand wins slightly more often (45.86% vs 44.62%) due to the drawing rules. Without commission, banker would have a player advantage. The 5% commission creates the house edge of 1.06%.
Lower is better. 5% is standard (1.06% edge). Some casinos offer 4% (0.60% edge) or even 3% (0.14% edge). Finding tables with reduced commission significantly improves your odds.
EZ Baccarat has 1.02% edge vs 1.06% for standard 5% commission - slightly better. However, the push on Dragon 7 can be frustrating. Both are excellent bets.
Traditionally, commission is tracked and collected when you leave the table or after each shoe. Some casinos collect immediately after each winning hand. The math is the same either way.
