Turn a PDF into audio free — no upload, fully private

This free PDF to MP3 converter reads your documents aloud without uploading anything. The text layer is extracted with pdf.js right in your browser, speech is synthesized by your device's own voices, and the downloadable audio is encoded locally. Contracts, financial statements, medical records and other sensitive PDFs never leave your computer.

Pick a single page, a chapter-sized range, or the whole document: tick the pages you want (or set a from/to range), press Play selected to listen now, or download the selection as MP3 or WAV for offline listening — turn a long report into an audiobook for your commute in a couple of clicks.

Long documents play back reliably because the text is split into short, sentence-sized utterances that are queued page by page — the same approach our Text to Speech tool uses — so a 200-page PDF keeps reading instead of getting cut off.

  4. Press Play selected to listen now, with the page being read highlighted as it plays.
  5. Press Download MP3 or Download WAV to save the selection as an audio file.

Frequently asked questions

How do I turn a PDF into audio for free?
Drop your PDF into the reader above. The text is extracted in your browser, you pick the pages you want, press Play to hear them read aloud, and use Download MP3 or Download WAV to save the audio. Everything is free and runs locally on your device.
Can I listen to a PDF aloud without uploading it?
Yes. Text extraction runs with pdf.js inside your browser and speech uses your browser or device voices, so the PDF file never leaves your computer — safe for contracts, statements and other sensitive documents.
How does the MP3 download work?
The download records the speech while it plays, using the same local recording stack as our Text to Speech tool, then encodes the capture to MP3 (or WAV). Because conversion happens locally in real time, it takes about as long as the audio itself and your browser will ask permission to capture tab audio first.
Does it work on scanned PDFs?
No — a scan is an image without a text layer, so there is nothing to read aloud. Run the file through free OCR first, then bring the text back here.
Can it read a whole book-length PDF?
Playback is chunked into short utterances that are queued page by page, so long documents keep playing instead of getting cut off. For downloads, keep the selected range to an hour or so per file — the export runs in real time.
