Quick Answer
Spider Solitaire is a two-deck patience game played on ten tableau columns: build cards down in descending order regardless of suit, and when you assemble a complete king-to-ace run in a single suit it clears from the board. Clear all eight runs to win. Our free version offers 1, 2, and 4-suit difficulties, click-to-auto-move, drag and drop, unlimited undo, hints, and auto-save — all in your browser with no sign-up.
How It Works
Pick a difficulty — 1, 2, or 4 suits — and build face-up cards downward in rank across the ten columns
Move whole descending runs together; only king-to-ace runs in a single suit clear the board
Click a run to auto-move it, drag it to another column, or tap run-then-column on touch
Keep every column occupied and deal from the stock; clear all eight K→A runs to win
Key Facts
- Two full decks — 104 cards — dealt across 10 tableau columns, with 5 stock deals of 10 cards
- Three difficulties: 1 suit (easy), 2 suits (medium), 4 suits (expert)
- Build descending runs in any suit; only same-suit K→A runs clear off the board
- Move entire runs together, even when the suits are mixed
- The stock only deals a new row when every column holds at least one card
- Click a run to auto-move it, drag it anywhere legal, or tap card-then-column on touch
- Unlimited undo plus a hint that prefers same-suit builds
- Auto-save to your device — close the tab and resume later
Frequently Asked Questions
How do you play Spider Solitaire?
Two decks are dealt across ten columns — the first four columns get six cards, the rest five, with only the top card face-up. You build face-up cards downward in descending rank (a 7 on an 8) in any suit, and you can pick up and move any face-up descending run as a unit. The goal is to assemble a full king-to-ace sequence in a single suit; when you do, it is removed from the table. Remove all eight runs to win.
What is the difference between 1, 2, and 4 suits?
The difficulty comes from how many suit families the two decks use. In 1-suit Spider every card is a spade, so any K→A run you build is automatically a completed run — ideal for learning. 2-suit uses spades and hearts, and 4-suit is the classic expert game where all four suits appear. More suits means fewer same-suit runs form naturally, so the board clogs faster.
Why won’t the stock deal me new cards?
Spider rules only allow a new row of 10 cards when every tableau column contains at least one card — an empty column would leave one dealt card homeless. Build something into the gap first (any card fits an empty column), then click the stock. Keeping one column empty as a maneuvering space is a common strategy, but you must fill it before dealing.
What are the controls?
Click (or tap) any card that heads a valid descending run to auto-move that run to the best spot — same-suit builds are preferred. To play manually, drag the run to its destination column. On touch screens you can also tap a run to select it and then tap the column you want. Click the stock to deal a new row when allowed.
Is my game saved if I close the page?
Yes. Your game state and timer are saved to your device with localStorage after every move, and the game resumes exactly where you left off when you return. Wins and best times are kept locally too. Everything is 100% client-side — no account, no server, no sign-up.
