Frequently Asked Questions
Why does the Thanksgiving date change every year?
Since a 1941 act of Congress, US Thanksgiving is the fourth Thursday of November rather than a fixed date. Depending on how the weekdays fall, that lands between November 22 and November 28 — for example, November 26 in 2026 but November 25 in 2027.
How is the fourth Thursday of November calculated?
The first Thursday of November falls somewhere between November 1 and November 7. Add three weeks (21 days) to it and you get the fourth Thursday. This page does that math for every year automatically, so the countdown always targets the right date.
How many weeks until Thanksgiving?
Take the days remaining and divide by 7. The live counter at the top of this page shows the full weeks plus leftover days for you — 49 days to go is exactly 7 weeks, 52 days is 7 weeks and 3 days.
What dates does Thanksgiving fall on from 2026 to 2030?
Thanksgiving lands on November 26 in 2026, November 25 in 2027, November 23 in 2028, November 22 in 2029, and November 28 in 2030 — always a Thursday. The five-year table on this page lists them with their weekdays.
Do other countries celebrate Thanksgiving on the same day?
No. Canadian Thanksgiving is the second Monday of October, and other countries that observe a Thanksgiving holiday set their own dates. This countdown tracks the US holiday on the fourth Thursday of November.
