Quick Answer
A spacebar counter measures how many times you can press the space bar in a set time — usually scored as presses per second. Tap or hold-ready your thumb and smash the giant key for 1, 5, 10, 30, or 60 seconds; the timer starts on your first press. Most people manage 5–7 presses per second, while top players reach 10+ using alternating thumbs or fingers. Nothing is uploaded: the whole test runs in your browser.
How It Works

Press the space bar once — the timer starts on your first press
Mash the space bar (fully release between presses) until time runs out
Check your presses-per-second score and chart, then retry to beat it

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a spacebar counter?
It is a speed challenge that counts how many times you can press the space bar before a timer runs out, then reports your presses per second. It is popular with gamers (jump timing, buffering) and as a friendly competition. Our version offers 1, 5, 10, 30, and 60 second tests.
What is a good spacebar speed?
Most people press the spacebar 5–7 times per second. Above 8 is fast, and skilled players using two fingers or alternating thumbs can exceed 10 presses per second. The world-record territory for one-second bursts is around 14–16 presses.
Does holding the spacebar count as multiple presses?
No. A held key fires auto-repeat events on most systems, so we filter those out — only physically distinct presses are counted. You have to fully release and re-press for each count, which keeps scores honest.
How do I press the spacebar faster?
Use your thumb with a relaxed hand and strike the center of the bar. Advanced players alternate thumb and index finger, or rest a finger on each side of the bar. Warm up for a minute and practice in short bursts to build speed without fatigue.
Will pressing spacebar scroll the page during the test?
No. While the test is active the page blocks the spacebar default scroll behavior, so you can mash away without the page jumping. When idle, press space once on the key to focus it and start.
Is this spacebar counter free and private?
Completely free with no sign-up. Everything runs locally in your browser — your presses are counted on your device and never sent anywhere, so it even works offline once loaded.
