Quick Answer

A wheel of names is a visual random picker: you add names to a spinning wheel, give it a spin, and the segment under the pointer wins. Our free wheel spinner picks fairly using your browser's cryptographic random number generator, so every entry has an equal chance. Paste any list — students, teammates, prizes — and spin. Everything runs locally in your browser; nothing is uploaded and no sign-up is needed.

How It Works

1

Add your names to the entries box, one per line — the wheel rebuilds live as you type

2

Press Spin, or grab the wheel, flick it, and let go for real momentum

3

Watch it ease to a stop over 4-6 seconds — the segment under the top pointer wins

4

Remove the winner (manually or automatically) and spin again for the next pick

Key Facts

  • Add unlimited custom names or options — the wheel rebuilds live as you type

  • Spin with the button or drag the wheel and release for real flick momentum
  • Smooth ease-out deceleration over 4-6 seconds, like a real prize wheel
  • Optional remove-winner mode eliminates picked names so everyone gets a turn
  • Shuffle and reset controls for reusing your list
  • Colorful auto-cycled segments with a pointer triangle at the top
  • 100% client-side: your list never leaves the browser, no sign-up

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a wheel of names actually random?

Yes. This wheel determines the stopping position using crypto.getRandomValues, the browser's cryptographically secure random number generator — the same source used for security keys. Because all segments are equal in size and the final angle jitter is uniformly random, every entry has exactly the same chance of winning. It is fairer than human "eeny-meeny" picking and cannot be predicted.

Can I use my own list of names?

Absolutely. Type or paste your names into the entries box, one per line, and the wheel rebuilds instantly — students, coworkers, chores, prizes, or any options you like. There is no limit on the number of entries; long lists simply get thinner segments. You can also shuffle the order or reset to the example list at any time.

How many names can the wheel hold?

There is no hard cap. The wheel redraws for any list size — 3, 30, or 300 entries — with segments and label sizes scaling automatically. With very long lists labels abbreviate, but the selection stays equally random. For classroom use, 40+ names work fine.

Can I remove winners so everyone gets a turn?

Yes. Enable "Remove winner after each spin" and each picked name is taken off the wheel automatically, so no one is chosen twice — ideal for calling on students or drawing prize winners in order. You can also remove the winner manually from the result banner, and the wheel keeps working until two or more entries remain.

Is my list private? Does it work offline?

Your list never leaves your device. The wheel, the random selection, and the animation all run entirely in your browser — there are no accounts, no server calls, and no tracking. Once the page is loaded it even keeps working offline.

What is it good for besides picking names?

Teachers use it to call on students; teams use it to pick who presents first or assigns fair standup order; parties use it for raffles and "who goes next" in games; families use it for chores and dinner decisions. Any time you need an unbiased, visible, and fun pick from a list, spin the wheel.
