Quick Answer

Type your available letters and this word finder instantly lists every dictionary word you can build — full anagrams, shorter sub-words, and pattern matches with blanks. It works as a Scrabble word finder, Words with Friends helper, anagram solver, and crossword pattern search in one. Everything runs locally in your browser: the bundled 359,000-word list never leaves your device, no sign-up is needed, and results are grouped by length for fast scanning.

How It Works

1

Enter your available letters (up to 12) — every valid word appears instantly as you type

2

Optionally add a pattern like _a_t, using _ or ? as blank tiles for unknown letters

3

Narrow the list with starts-with, ends-with, contains, must-include, or length filters

4

Switch between grouped-by-length and A–Z views, then copy the words you need

Frequently Asked Questions

Is using a word finder cheating?

It depends on the context. During official club or tournament play, consulting any outside word aid mid-game is against the rules. Outside of sanctioned games, most players use word finders to settle challenges, learn new words, study two- and three-letter lists, and improve rack management — treating it as a training tool rather than an in-game crutch is the common approach.

What dictionary does this word finder use?

It searches a bundled general English word list of 359,065 words (the ENABLE-derived words_alpha list). Official Scrabble lexica are smaller: NASPA Word List (TWL, used in North American tournaments) has roughly 190,000 words and SOWPODS (used internationally) around 270,000. This list overlaps heavily with both but also includes everyday words some lexica reject, so confirm a marginal word against your game's official dictionary before playing it.

How does the anagram solver work?

It counts the letters on your tiles and makes a single pass through the word list, keeping every word whose letters can all be covered by your rack — so a 7-letter rack like RETINAS surfaces full anagrams (retinas, stearin, stainer, anestri) plus every shorter sub-word like rinse, tines, and-tsar. Because the whole list is loaded in the page, the pass finishes in milliseconds.

What do the _ and ? wildcards mean in the pattern box?

Both work as a blank tile: each one stands for exactly one unknown letter, and the word results always match the full pattern length. For example, the pattern _a_t matches four-letter words with "a" in the second position and "t" in the fourth, such as bath, cart, mast, and wart. Combine a pattern with your rack letters to only see plays you can actually make.

Do my letters get uploaded anywhere?

No. The word list is bundled into the page and every search runs in your browser's memory — there are no API calls, no tracking of your input, and no account. Once the page has loaded it keeps working offline.

How many letters can I enter?

Up to 12. A Scrabble or Words with Friends rack holds 7 tiles (8 with a blank tile exchange variants), so 12 comfortably covers full racks plus potential blanks, and also suits jumble puzzles, Boggle-style grids, and anagram hunts.
