Quick Answer

This calculator uses the NOAA solar position equations to find sunrise, sunset, solar noon, day length, and golden hour for any date and location on Earth. Enter coordinates or use your device location, pick a date, and the times appear instantly — all computed in your browser with no network calls. Polar day and polar night are handled explicitly.

How It Works

1

Enter your latitude and longitude, or tap Use My Location to fill them in automatically

2

Pick a date — today is preselected and results update as you type

3

Read sunrise, solar noon, sunset, and day length in your local timezone

4

Use the morning and evening golden hour windows for photography planning

Key Facts

  • Sunrise, solar noon, and sunset for any date and any location on Earth
  • Day length shown in hours and minutes
  • Golden hour windows (sun between −4° and +6°) for morning and evening
  • One-tap device location via the browser Geolocation API
  • NOAA solar algorithm — typically accurate to within a couple of minutes
  • Polar day and polar night detected and labeled instead of shown as errors
  • 100% client-side: no network calls, nothing uploaded

Frequently Asked Questions

What time is sunrise today?

Sunrise depends on your exact location and the date. Enter your coordinates — or tap the location button — and today's sunrise time appears instantly, computed with the NOAA solar algorithm. Results include solar noon, sunset, day length, and the morning and evening golden hour windows.

What is golden hour?

Golden hour is the period when the sun sits low in the sky — between about 6° above and 4° below the horizon — producing soft, warm, diffused light that photographers prize. This calculator shows both the morning and evening golden hour windows for your location and date.

Why does day length change through the year?

Earth's axis is tilted about 23.4° relative to its orbit. As Earth travels around the Sun, the tilt points each hemisphere toward or away from the Sun, changing how long it stays above the horizon each day. Day length is constant only at the equator and extreme near the poles, where summer brings 24-hour days and winter 24-hour nights.

What is solar noon?

Solar noon is the moment the sun crosses its highest point in the sky for your location — true local noon. It usually differs from 12:00 clock time because of your time zone's width and, in many countries, daylight saving time. Sunrise and sunset are roughly symmetric around it.

How accurate is this sunrise sunset calculator?

It implements the same NOAA solar position equations used by the official NOAA Solar Calculator, which is typically accurate to within a couple of minutes. It accounts for atmospheric refraction (the standard 0.833° horizon) and refines its position at the computed solar noon.

What happens during polar day and polar night?

Above the Arctic and Antarctic Circles, the sun can stay above or below the horizon for days or months. Instead of showing impossible times, the calculator detects these cases and labels the day as polar day (sun never sets) or polar night (sun never rises).
