Frequently Asked Questions

Is Unciv the same as Civilization V?

Unciv is an original open-source implementation (MPL-2.0) of the Civilization V ruleset, built by Yair Mileguir and a large contributor community. It is not made by or affiliated with Firaxis or 2K — it is an independent project that recreates the Civ V experience with original code and art, and adds its own quality-of-life features like faster turns and a built-in mod browser.

Where are my saves stored?

In this embed, saves live in your browser’s local storage on your own device — the same behavior as the desktop version’s local saves. Nothing is uploaded anywhere, and closing the tab does not lose your game. Because storage is per-browser, saves will not follow you to a different device.

Does it work on phones and tablets?

Yes — Unciv was designed mobile-first and its touch UI works well on tablets. On a phone the map can feel small but is fully playable; a larger screen simply makes empire management more comfortable.

Can I play multiplayer?

The web build supports Unciv’s multiplayer by cloud save, which requires creating an account with the Unciv project. Everything on this page works without one; multiplayer is entirely optional and your single-player games never leave your device.
