How do I set a countdown to a specific date?

Enter your event name, choose the target date and time with the date-time picker (or tap a preset like New Year or Weekend), and the countdown starts immediately — days, hours, minutes, and seconds ticking live. Change either field at any time and the display re-targets instantly.

Can I share my countdown with friends?

Yes. Press "Copy share link" and send the URL anywhere — chat, email, social bios. The link encodes your event name and target date as query parameters (for example ?name=Launch&to=2027-01-01T09:00), so whoever opens it sees the identical countdown running in their own time zone. No account or server storage is involved.

Does the countdown keep running in a background tab?

Yes. The countdown is computed from the current clock every time the browser paints the tab, so it is always accurate no matter how long the tab sits in the background — it never drifts or accumulates error. The tab title itself shows the live countdown, so you can keep an eye on it from another tab.

What time zone does the countdown use?

Your own. The target is entered and interpreted in your local time zone, and the remaining time is true elapsed time. When someone opens your shared link from another time zone, the target instant is the same absolute moment; their display converts it to their local zone automatically.

What happens when the countdown reaches zero?

The display switches to a celebration screen announcing that your event has arrived, and the tab title switches to a "🎉 it’s here" message. There is no alarm sound by default — if you want ringing alerts, multiple countdowns, or browser notifications, use our full countdown timer manager at /other/time/countdown-timer.

How is this different from the days-until holiday pages?

The holiday pages are pre-built for fixed dates like Christmas or Halloween. This countdown lets you target any date and time you choose — a wedding, a product launch, a final exam — name it, share it, and watch it tick. For fixed holidays, the dedicated pages add date tables and history; for everything else, this tool is the one to use.
