Frequently Asked Questions

Can I design a real brochure or flyer with this?

Yes. This is DesignCraft, an open-source page layout application compiled to WebAssembly. It has the core InDesign model — pages and master pages, frames you place text and images into, guides and grids — which is exactly what flyers, brochures, newsletters, and reports need.

Is the PDF output actually print-ready?

It exports to established PDF standards, including PDF/X-4 — the format print shops ask for — and PDF/A-2b for long-term archiving. That means the file you hand a printer carries the right color and embedding expectations rather than being a screen-only PDF.

How is it different from designing in a word processor?

A word processor flows one text story and puts images inline. A layout tool puts you in charge of the page: text goes in frames you position, images are cropped into their own frames, master pages repeat headers and footers automatically, and typography controls are per-frame. For anything with a designed page — not just a document — this is the right class of tool.

Are my documents uploaded anywhere?

No. The application runs entirely in your browser, documents are opened and saved locally, and PDF export happens on your device. Nothing is sent to a server.

Does it replace InDesign?

For newsletters, brochures, flyers, and reports — the bulk of what InDesign is used for day to day — it covers the workflow at no cost. Deep integration with Creative Cloud libraries and every long-document power feature are another matter. As a free tool you can open in seconds, it earns its place in the toolbox.
