Free Online FreeCAD — 3D CAD in Your Browser

FreeCAD itself, running in a browser tab: the full parametric CAD suite — Sketcher, Part Design, assemblies, drawings, and Python scripting — compiled to WebAssembly. No install, no account, and your .FCStd files stay on your device.

FreeCAD

The real FreeCAD in your browser — parametric 3D CAD, sketching, assemblies, and FEM meshing via WebAssembly.

First launch downloads ≈135 MB, then it's cached for a year. Nothing is uploaded — your files stay on this device.

Large download — best on a fast connection.

This is a desktop-class app — it works best on a larger screen.

Quick Answer

This free online CAD editor is FreeCAD itself — the open-source parametric 3D modeler — compiled from its C++ source to WebAssembly by the Virtastic freecad-web project and running fully in your browser. You get the complete FreeCAD interface: the Sketcher, Part Design workbench, assemblies, TechDraw 2D drawings, and a Python console, with the Gmsh and CalculiX analysis modules included. Models open from and save to your device as native .FCStd files, nothing is uploaded, and it costs nothing with no account. It is a very large app (a ~135 MB first download and a couple of gigabytes of memory), so use a recent desktop browser on a capable machine — Chrome or Edge 137 or newer.

How It Works

1

Open this page in desktop Chrome or Edge (version 137 or newer) and click Launch — FreeCAD downloads (~135 MB) and starts in the page

2

Wait for the startup log to finish and the full FreeCAD window to appear

3

Pick a workbench (Part Design is the classic start), sketch with constraints, and pad or revolve it into a solid

4

Save your work as a .FCStd file to your device — it opens directly in desktop FreeCAD too

Key Facts

  • The real FreeCAD 1.0 interface, not a lookalike
  • Parametric Part Design and constrained Sketcher
  • Assemblies, TechDraw drawings, STL/STEP export
  • Bundled Python console and macros
  • Gmsh + CalculiX FEA meshing and solver modules
  • Opens and saves .FCStd files on your device
  • Free, open source (LGPL-2.1), no account, nothing uploaded

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this really FreeCAD, or a simplified clone?

It is really FreeCAD. The FreeCAD project’s C++ source — together with Qt, OpenCASCADE, Python, and the rest of its stack — is compiled to WebAssembly by the open-source Virtastic freecad-web project and runs here unmodified. You get the complete FreeCAD interface: workbenches, the model tree, the properties editor, and the Python console, exactly as shipped, just executing in your browser instead of a desktop install. The FreeCAD name and logo belong to the FreeCAD project, which does not itself publish this web build.

What does it cost, and do I need an account?

Nothing and no. FreeCAD is free, open-source software (LGPL-2.1) and this embed adds no account, trial, or watermark. The first launch downloads about 135 MB (cached afterwards), and the running app needs roughly two gigabytes of memory — that is the price of a full CAD suite in a tab.

Which browsers work with online FreeCAD?

Use desktop Chrome or Edge version 137 or newer — the WebAssembly engine relies on JSPI (JavaScript Promise Integration), which those browsers ship. Recent Firefox versions work as well. Safari and phones are not supported: the app needs both the modern WebAssembly features and the memory headroom of a desktop.

Where are my files and projects stored?

On your device. You can open .FCStd, STEP, STL, and other CAD files from your computer through the app’s file browser and save them back the same way — the browser handles the actual disk access, and nothing is uploaded anywhere. Save before closing the tab: like any desktop session, unsaved work does not survive the tab closing.

How does browser FreeCAD compare to the desktop version?

Same interface and toolset, different engine constraints: the web build runs on WebAssembly with a WebGL viewport, is more sensitive to memory limits, and large assemblies or FEM solves run slower than a native install. For learning CAD, coursework, quick edits, and machines where you cannot install software, it is genuinely usable; for day-long production modeling, keep the desktop version — your .FCStd files open in both.

Can I use this to learn 3D CAD for free?

Yes — that is one of its best uses. FreeCAD is the most-used free parametric CAD package, and thousands of tutorials for it apply here button-for-button. Open this page, follow any beginner FreeCAD tutorial (the Part Design + Sketcher workflow is the classic path), and practice real mechanical modeling without installing anything. When you outgrow the browser version, your .FCStd files open directly in desktop FreeCAD.
